The First day of School

Hay Lin giggled at the name.

Elyon: Cornelia's later than usual today. I hope she isn't hurt.

Will carefully followed the professor's instructions and recorded the data.

"Where's the girl that sits with you?" Will asked to Elyon.

Elyon: "I--I don't know."

Taranee and Hay set to work with the Bunsen Burner, clamp stand and the lask of the orange liquid.

Elyon: "But I can't do today's lab alone." *looks Will* "Would you be willing to be my partner today?"

"Yes, of course!" Will said, relieved. "So...we pour this liquid into that beaker?"

Elyon: "Yup." *pours into beaker* "And then we heat it to 100*C." *looks around* "If we only had a Bunsen Burner..."

"There's one over there," Will said, pointing at the teacher's desk. "Do you think he would allow us to borrow it?"

Elyon: "There's only one way to find out."

She goes to the teacher's desk, grabs the bunsen burner, & takes it to Will.

Will looked at the Professor. He didn't seem to mind.

"Okay." Will picked up a beaker of liquid and handed it to Elyon. "Want to do the honors?"

Elyon: "Sure."

She takes the beaker, straps it to the metal clipper things, sets it above the bunsen burner & turns the burner on. She makes a really large blue flame.

"So far, so good," Will murmured. She looked over at her sheet of paper and added a teaspoon of salt and a tablespoon of baking soda.

The mixture exploded everywhere.

"AHH!" Will exclaimed, backing away. At least she had on her safety goggles. "What did I do wrong??"

Her eyes go wide as her clothes gets covered with the stuff.

Elyon: "I think the part where the liquid stays in the beaker--not on us. Is where you messed up."

She goes to get some paper towels.

Hay Lin looked over at Will and Elyon and started to laugh.

Elyon's cheeks become crimson as she blushes deeply.
